Top 5 Ways to Use Vital Wheat Gluten!

Kyla Renshaw

Let's talk about vital wheat gluten!  A versatile ingredient that is commonly used in plant-based cooking and baking to provide structure and elasticity to dough, made by hydrating the wheat flour to activate the gluten (protein in wheat) and then processing it to extract everything from it except the gluten, and finally, it is dried and ground back into a powder. It's very high in protein (hooray), it is an excellent source of vital minerals such as selenium and iron, it's low in carbs, low in fat, soy-free, and incredibly versatile. Here are five things you can do with vital wheat gluten:Seitan (Wheat Meat):Seitan is a popular meat substitute made from vital wheat gluten. By mixing vital wheat gluten with water or a flavorful broth, you can create a dough which then can be kneaded and shaped into the desired form. The dough is typically simmered or baked, resulting in a protein-rich and chewy texture that can be sliced, diced, or shredded for use in various savory dishes.Homemade Veggie Burgers:Combine vital wheat gluten with other plant-based ingredients such as beans, vegetables, and spices to make your own homemade veggie burgers. The vital wheat gluten adds a meaty texture to the burgers, making them more satisfying, hearty, and protein packed!Meatless Meatballs or Sausages:Create meatless meatballs or vegan sausages by mixing vital wheat gluten with herbs and spices. Shape the mixture into balls or sausages and cook them by baking, frying, or simmering in a flavourful broth. These are perfect for pasta dishes, sandwiches, or as appetizers. Vegan Deli Slices or Cold Cuts:Blend vital wheat gluten with seasonings and vegetable broth to form a dough that can be rolled out and sliced into thin pieces. Steam or bake the slices until firm, and you'll have homemade vegan deli slices that can be used in sandwiches, wraps, or salads.Baking Enhancer:Vital wheat gluten is often listed as "optional" in baking recipes, but it's a helpful ingredient to have on hand. Since it's a concentrated wheat protein, just a tablespoon or two of vital wheat gluten in your next loaf of bread can improve its elasticity and create a better crumb and chewiness in the final product. Remember to adjust the seasonings and additional ingredients based on your taste preferences and dietary restrictions as vital wheat gluten is not suitable for celiacs or those with gluten allergies. Whether you're following a plant-based diet or looking to experiment with new recipes, vital wheat gluten can be a valuable ingredient in your kitchen. Beginner's Guide to Veganism: Nourishing Your Body, Mind, and Planet

Veganism has emerged as a powerful movement, advocating for a more compassionate and sustainable lifestyle. There are so many different reasons as to why someone becomes vegan but whatever the reason is, you are welcome here at Vegan Supply and all the animals thank you for making the world a better place. As awareness of the environmental impact of animal agriculture grows, more and more people are exploring the benefits of a vegan lifestyle. If you are considering embracing this ethical and health-conscious path, you've come to the right place. In this beginner's guide to veganism, we'll explore the essence of vegan living, the health benefits it offers, practical tips for transitioning, and how to navigate potential challenges along the way. We're always here to help you through your vegan journey! Understanding Veganism Veganism is not just a diet but a philosophy that aims to avoid all forms of animal exploitation. Vegans refrain from consuming animal-derived products such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, and honey. Additionally, they also steer clear of products tested on animals and those made from animal skins, fur, or feathers. The core principles of veganism revolve around compassion for animals, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable living. Health Benefits of Veganism Adopting a well-planned vegan diet can have numerous health benefits. Studies suggest that vegans tend to have lower rates of heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. A balanced vegan diet can be rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, promoting a healthier digestive system and overall well-being. However, it's crucial to ensure you are meeting all your nutritional requirements, particularly Vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Transitioning to a Vegan Lifestyle At Vegan Supply, we're here to make vegan easy. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just starting out, we're here to make the journey easy, fun, and full of delicious food! Going vegan doesn't have to be an overnight transformation. Take gradual steps to make the transition smoother. Start by incorporating more plant-based meals into your diet and exploring vegan recipes. Experiment with alternative dairy products like almond milk, soy yogurt, and cashew cheese. Focus on eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds to enjoy a balanced diet. Educate yourself on nutrition and seek guidance from registered dietitians if needed. Many establishments now offer vegan options or can modify dishes upon request. Be open to trying different cuisines, as some, like Indian, Middle Eastern, and Thai, tend to have more vegan-friendly choices. In social situations, communicate your dietary preferences politely to hosts or restaurant staff, and you'll find that most people are accommodating. We suggest going on HappyCow!
