Why Food Choices Matter in Climate Action The way we produce, consume, and waste food has significant environmental consequences. According to research, the global food system contributes up to 37% of greenhouse gas emissions. EcoCooks understands that by educating young people on the connection between food and climate, they can influence a shift towards sustainable food practices. EcoCooks emphasizes plant-based eating, waste reduction, and local sourcing as tangible steps young people can take to reduce their environmental impact. Through hands-on learning experiences, EcoCooks helps youth see that their choices in the kitchen can contribute to a healthier planet. EcoCooks Programs: Making Sustainability Fun and Accessible EcoCooks offers a range of programs for different age groups, available in schools, afterschool settings, and online. Each program provides practical knowledge, cooking skills, and the tools necessary to make planet-friendly choices. October Donation Recipients 2024 - Rooster Haus Rescue & Rabbitats
Rooster Haus Rescue Rooster Haus Rescue, located near Fall City, WA, was founded in 2016 after an illegal cockfighting ring was busted by police and roughly 600 roosters were seized. All but 20 of them were killed. One of these frightened, abused, and mutilated roosters ended up with their founder, who saw how sweet & trusting he was despite years of abuse, and so began Rooster Haus Rescue. Rooster Haus Rescue gives neglected and abused farmed animals a safe future, free from harm, with a primary focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and giving permanent sanctuary to the underdogs: roosters and animals with special needs. Rooster Haus Rescue believes in ending all animal abuse and exploitation and follows a way of life guided by vegan principles.The sanctuary is now home to around one hundred animals including roosters, hens, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, pigeons, pheasants, fishes, dogs, and a cat. In addition to gifting a donation, we're also bringing opportunities for you to join in and volunteer with us within the lower mainland this month, and beyond!  The Happy Herd The Happy Herd, providing loving care and forever homes to farm animals, are celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary this month! Elephanatics Elephanatics, formed in May 2012, is an elephant advocacy organization residing in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Their mission is to help the long-term survival of African elephants by raising and disseminating information about their ecology and conservation in the face of the recent resurgence of continental-wide ivory poaching in Africa. They educate on issues of ivory poaching, habitat loss, human-elephant co-existence, the importance of the elephant as a keystone species, and connect Canadians directly with elephant conservation partners in Africa. As an organization they strive to educate people through various mediums of outreach, have made numerous educational classroom presentations to primary & secondary schools and universities, and hold periodic fundraisers. June 2024 Donation Recipients - Heartwood Haven & Super Senior Cat Sanctuary
Heartwood Haven Heartwood Haven is a local, woman-owned sanctuary for animals rescued from cruelty, abandonment, and neglect, located in Roy, WA. They are a home to over 85 rescued residents and have saved over 1,700 animals through local rescue and an adoption program. Their educational tours have also brought in over 2,000 visitors to the sanctuary to learn about the unique individuals living there. Your donation will help Heartwood Haven continue to fight against the disastrous effects of animal cruelty through rescue, education, and sanctuary to promote a more compassionate world for animals and humans. May 2024 Donation Recipients - Vietnam Animal Aid And Rescue & Barn Sanctuary
 Vietnam Animal Aid And Rescue (VAAR) Vietnam Animal Aid And Rescue (VAAR) is currently the only animal rights organization in Vietnam that explicitly advocates for a fully vegan lifestyle and the abolition of all animal use in the name of animal rights, the environment, food security, and public health. VAAR has done vegan education programs for school children, community outreach for animals in need of emergency medical care, and oversee the care and adoption of rescued animals at their sanctuary in Hoi An. They currently care for around 35 onsite rescued animals, including cats, dogs, pigs, and chickens.  KSAR Kabul Small Animal Rescue is a veterinary clinic and animal shelter in Afghanistan working to help animals in need. With over 450 dogs and cats in their Kabul based shelters, their staff of 90 (including 10 veterinarians) provide medical care and shelter to injured and orphaned street, and to companion animals. They also find loving homes for homeless animals by providing adoption services both in Afghanistan and abroad. February 2024 Donation Recipients - FARRM & Free Spirit Sanctuary
FARRM: Farm Animal Rescue and Rehoming Movement (FARRM) is an animal sanctuary near Wetaskiwin, AB, operating under values affirmed in a vegan lifestyle, with facilities for surrendered and abused farm animals. FARRM started as an initiative to help the growing number of abandoned potbelly pigs, ran a support network for these homeless & abused animals, and after great success with that initiative (and with over 100 potbelly pigs rescued and rehomed in under a year), the movement continued to expand and FARRM was officially created.
