February 2023 Donation Recipients - Manitoba Animal Alliance + Whistleblower Cesar Alonso

MEET OUR FEBRUARY DONATION RECIPIENTS AND SEE HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!!  MANITOBA ANIMAL ALLIANCE Working together with First Nation communities, Manitoba Animal Alliance builds on a foundation of compassion and inclusion to help both pets and people, making sure that everyone has the same access to care for their pets and that every adoptable pet (stray or rehomed) has access to the comfort of a home.  During emergency evacuations in Northern communities, pets are often stranded due to limited space on evacuation planes. Manitoba Animal Alliance helps put together plans for the animals left behind - including providing supplies and flying emergency personnel back in to care for the animals until their owners are flown back home. Drive out communities are supported with onsite food and pet supplies in conjunction with Red Cross operations for evacuees. Manitoba Animal Alliance works with communities to support progressive pet management programs, policies, and extending veterinary access. Their team is heavily invested in taking action by working together with community members, health authorities, elected officials and community leadership as part of their greater One Health Program. This One Health commitment means taking a unifying approach that balances the health of people, animals, and their shared environment.  To learn more visit: https://www.manitobaanimalalliance.com/ WHISTLEBLOWER CESAR ALONSO Last year, undercover footage from Cedar Valley Farms (an organic dairy farm in Chilliwack, owned by veterinarian Dr. Rich Vanderwal) surfaced showing emaciated and limping cows, cows being beaten & kicked, and cows being shot and left to slowly die. Cesar Alonso, a Mexican immigrant and employee of this farm, was wrongfully dismissed after reporting this animal abuse to management and owners. After his dismissal, Alonso appeared on a national news story revealing the atrocities at Cedar Valley Farms – even though he risked ruining his chances of getting a favourable settlement from his former employer. For years, while employed at the farm, Alonso did what he could to help the animals. After witnessing newborn calves killed in front of their mothers, Alonso started acting on his own. He would take as many baby calves as he could into his own home until he could get them into a sanctuary. In four years, he saved approximately twenty calves who are now living out their natural lives on sanctuaries around B.C. Now it’s our turn to help Alonso. We’re raising funds to help him pay his legal fees, and to help defend him from any further financial harm.  Alonso helped so many animals… Now it’s his turn to accept our help. He is incredibly grateful for every dollar donated. To learn more please visit: https://gofund.me/7007c4f1

January 2023 Donation Recipients - Manitoba All Shepherd Rescue + Little Oink Bank

MEET OUR JANUARY DONATION RECIPIENTS AND SEE HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!!  MANITOBA ALL SHEPHERD RESCUE Because of their inherent nature to work, and their keen intelligence, the German Shepherd is not suited for any and every home. They often end up in shelters, pounds, or cast aside to fend for themselves.  Many are found in deplorable conditions, chained to a life of misery, or used for purposes that no dog should ever have to endure. Manitoba All Shepherd Rescue puts the health and well being of each Shepherd & Shepherd Cross first. The sick and injured are seen immediately by a veterinarian and cared for by fosters who are dedicated to their recovery. They are nurtured not only in body, but in mind and spirit so that they can transition as healed and complete. Your donation will help the rehabilitation and recovery efforts along the way of these dogs finding their forever homes. To learn more please visit: https://www.manitobaallshepherdrescue.com/   LITTLE OINK BANK Little Oink Bank is a fully vegan farm animal sanctuary and registered Canadian charity located in Oliver, BC. They provide a safe and loving permanent home to more than 70 farm animals rescued from abuse, neglect, industry mistreatment, and unethical breeders. They promote the welfare of animals for the benefit of the public by rescuing and providing care for stray, abandoned, abused, or surrendered animals.  Your donation will not only allow the continued care and rescue efforts but will also allow them to advance education for the public by providing workshops, seminars, tours, and presentations on animal practices, rescue, and care; in addition to travelling throughout the province to provide otherwise impossible-to-obtain services such as hoof and tusk trims. September Monthly Donation Recipients - Paws Unite People + Hearts on Noses

MEET OUR SEPTEMBER DONATION RECIPIENTS AND SEE HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED!!  PAWS UNITE PEOPLE For the month of September, we want to bring you awareness of Mission Possible 2.0 - Rescue the Rescuers who is fundraising with Paws Unite People - as one of our featured September Monthly Donation Recipients. They helped facilitate the largest singular animal rescue event in history: in February 2022, 285 dogs and cats were evacuated out of Kabul to safety in Vancouver. On August 15, 2021, Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul was captured by Taliban forces. As evacuations began, the staff of the Kabul Small Animal Rescue shelter stayed behind to care for hundreds of animals in the facility. A global coalition of animal rescue agencies joined forces to rescue the dogs and cats from the shelter. This was a historic, 1st of its kind mission. Many of these animals were locally adopted, while others were reunited with their families. However, the Staff of the Kabul Shelter & their families are currently still in limbo. PUP (The Long Island, NY-based animal rescue and rehab organization PAWS UNITE PEOPLE) is shouldering the cost of care for these brave animal rescuers and their families. “PUP believes in helping animals and the people who love them,” said Meredith Festa, founder of the rescue. “There was no way we were going to let the staff who risked their lives to save so many animals be left behind. It’s our fervent hope that we can inspire a groundswell of support among Vancouver’s animal lovers to help PAWS UNITE PEOPLE rescue the rescuers, and bring these selfless individuals to safety”.  Get involved by leaving a donation at check-out online and in-store, with 100% of proceeds going to PUPS. And for further info and ways to be involved please go to: Mission Possible 2.0 - Rescue the Rescuers and https://www.pawsunitepeople.com. HEARTS ON NOSES Also for the month of September we are highlighting Hearts on Noses (HONs) which is located in Mission, BC. It was established in 1999 as a sanctuary for potbellied pigs. "Mini pigs" were a popular pet in the 1980s, and continue to be bred and sold as companion animals today. However, many purchasers are ill prepared or misinformed about the adult size, behaviors, and needs of potbellied pigs, and fail to carry through with a lifetime commitment. In other cases, these pigs fall into the hands of abusers where they suffer cruelty and neglect. The sanctuary provides a home to various breeds of pigs including Pot Bellied Pigs, Guinea Hogs, Heritage Pigs, a Piney Rooter and a Tamworth.  Any and all these breeds of pigs are currently farmed all over the world  for both meat and medical research. Together we will save as many as we can. The sanctuary is a place where these animals have found refuge from the harsh world that sees them as little more than pieces of property. Unlike so many others, they will receive love and care for the rest of their lives. At Hearts on Noses, all animals are equal and deserving of love and respect. Leave your gift of a donation at checkout both online or in-store and for further info or ways to be involved with HONs please go to: https://www.heartsonnoses.com You can donate online upon check-out or in-store. On behalf of the animals your gift supports, thank you!
